Assessment accommodation

Stream 1 Seismology Operations Manager:
Manages a team producing authoritative information on earthquakes in Canada, as well as contributing to Canada’s responsibilities under the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.

Stream 2 Space Weather and Geomagnetism Operations Manager:
Responsible for the operation of the national network of geomagnetic observatories, and manages a team which produces authoritative information on the geomagnetic field and space weather for Canada on a 24/7 basis.

The Canadian Hazards Information Service (CHIS) provides authoritative scientific and technical information regarding earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, landslides, space weather, geomagnetic activity, nuclear explosion tests, and nuclear and radiological incidents.
CHIS operates Canada-wide seismic, hydroacoustic, acoustic, and geomagnetic sensor networks as well as mobile radiation sensors to monitor some of these phenomena and provide timely notification and characterization of their occurrence.
CHIS also conducts scientific and technical research to ensure the mechanisms, hazards, and risks of the phenonena are understood and to ensure that techniques and technologies in use are appropriate and current.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, or some other science relevant to the position.

NOTE: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Degree equivalency

Stream 1 & Stream 2

Experience in managing scientific or technical human resources*.

Experience in the planning and accounting ( managing) for financial resources** allocated to projects.

Experience in providing technical advice, recommendations, writing and presenting briefing material to senior management (Director level and above).

Experience providing and receiving information in area of expertise to internal, external clients and stakeholders.

* Applicants must clearly demonstrate that they have human resources management experience - defined as: having supervised staff, assigned work, managed and assessed performance and development. This experience needs to have been acquired within the last five (5) years for a period of at least one (1) year.
** Applicants must demonstrate evidence of financial management experience - defined as: managing and being accountable for a budget. This experience needs to have been acquired within the last five (5) years for a period of at least one (1) year.
