SPECTRUM AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS SECTOR
So, what do we do? In a nutshell, we help make wireless work for Canadians!
We’re an 800+ person team dedicated to supporting the infrastructure of the digital economy. We research and regulate radiofrequency spectrum that carries wireless signals, and the telecom equipment that delivers the messages. We oversee the safety and security of Canada’s telecommunications infrastructure ensuring continuity in times crisis. We use policy, regulatory, legislative and program work to support a competitive, secure, wireless marketplace and a thriving, innovative digital economy.
As part of our team, you’ll help us analyse spectrum application requests, give out licenses and allocate frequencies. When issues arise, as they sometimes do, you’ll need to find and fix interferences issues. That’s the day-to-day job, but there’s also some pretty unique responsibilities, that you won’t find in the typical government jobs, such as: search and rescue, special events, monitoring, and enforcement.
A pool of partially qualified candidates (pending Second Language Evaluations and Security) will be established to make indeterminate appointments for variety of jobs with different requirements, locations, and language profiles.

EDUCATION:
ED1- Secondary school diploma AND either a) an Electronics Engineering Technology* diploma/certificate or b) an acceptable combination of education, training or experience in the field of radiocommunication.
* Includes but not limited to acceptable programs such as Telecommunications, Wireless, Broadcasting Technologies or Avionics Engineering Technology or the completion of an acceptable training program of at least 2,400 hours, in electronics technology or in the radiocommunications field.
Students who are currently registered in an Electronics Engineering Technology diploma/certificate program with an expected graduation by Spring/Summer 2020 or earlier will be considered and if found qualified, may be offered a position upon completion of the educational program.
EXPERIENCE:
EX1- Experience in office computer software (E-mail, word processing, Internet, spreadsheets and database systems).
EX2- Experience in operating test and measurement equipment.

EDUCATION (ASSET):
AE1 - Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in electronics or electrical engineering.
AE2 - Professional or amateur radio operator certificate.
EXPERIENCE (ASSETS):
AEX1 - Experience working in the field of telecommunications or radiocommunications or wireless;
AEX2 - Experience in the assembly or maintenance of electronic equipment;
AEX3 - Experience working in a regulatory environment;
AEX4 - Experience working in a client service delivery environment;
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
OR1- Ability and willingness to travel, which at times may be on short notice.
OR2- Ability and willingness to work overtime.
CE1: Secret security clearance
CE2: Must possess a valid, fully graduated driver's license issued by a province or territory of Canada.
