The work term will be from January 13, 2020 to April 24, 2020. It is expected that the student work a minimum of 10 hours per week. The candidate must be available to work these hours either on Monday, Thursday and/or Friday, as the necessary equipment is not available on the other days of the week.
$16.49 to $33.58 per hour (Salary will be determined by the student’s education and relevant experience.)

Duties

Under the guidance of a research scientist, the selected research assistant will assist in:

- drying, grinding and weighting of plant samples;
- washing roots;
- conducting laboratory analyses;
- recording data;
- planning experiments for the summer season.

Work environment

The selected research assistant will work mainly at the Quebec research and development centre, but will occasionally be required to work at the research farm located at St-Augustin-de-Desmaures.

The work includes the use of chemicals in laboratories. Work in agricultural fields is sometimes done under conditions of heat, cold, wind or humidity.

Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's or PhD program at a post-secondary educational institution with a specialization in agronomy or plant biology.

Have completed at least two (2) years of the bachelor's degree program in agronomy or plant biology.

Degree equivalency

Experience in scientific research.

*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.

Reliability Status security clearance - Each student hired through the Research Affiliate Program (RAP) must meet the security requirements of the position as a condition of employment, and therefore will be asked by the hiring organization to complete security-relevant documents.
