Small Craft Harbours is a nationwide program run by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). More than 5,000 volunteers assist the program annually. It keeps the harbours that are critical to the fishing industry open and in good repair. The program operates and maintains a national system of harbours to provide commercial fish harvesters and other harbour users with safe and accessible facilities.
The intent of this selection process is to staff one (1) permanent English essential position in Antigonish, NS. A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to staff similar positions of various tenures and language requirements in Moncton, NB and Dartmouth, NS.

EDUCATION
- Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in civil engineering, or other engineering specialty relevant to the requirements of the position
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
- Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada (The term "eligibility" for certification or membership in a professional association means that a candidate has met all academic and occupational requirements with respect to degrees, examinations, experience, etc. without having to have obtained or maintained actual registration, certification or membership)
EXPERIENCE
- Recent* and significant** experience in the planning, design, and construction of structural civil infrastructure
- Recent* and significant** experience in contract administration and managing technical consultants and contractors
- Experience in the preparation and evaluation of engineering reports, analysis of results and recommending implementation options in support of infrastructure investment and rehabilitation initiatives
- Experience in consulting with external stakeholders and regulatory agencies
- Experience managing financial and human resources
* Recent experience is understood to mean within the past eight (8) years
** Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth associated with having performed a broad range of various, complex related activities over a minimum of five (5) years

- Certification as a Project Management Professional
- Experience in the design, construction, rehabilitation, repair, and maintenance of harbour structures, or experience in a field of engineering which would contribute to the conduct of these activities
- Experience in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D
Reliability Status security clearance
- Willingness to travel, including travel to remote locations by various modes of transportation (e.g. small and large aircraft, all-terrain vehicles, boats, helicopter, etc.)
- Possession of a valid driver's license
- Requirement to work overtime
- Must have the physical ability to inspect marine structures and climb ladders
