This selection process will be used to staff positions within the Canadian Coast Guard in Victoria and Prince Rupert, BC. A pool of qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions, on a temporary or permanent basis.

Valid fall protection or rope access certification.
Minimum 3 years’ experience working on guyed or self-supporting communication towers and other antenna supporting structures.
Experience in the installation, removal, and maintenance of antennas and transmission line systems respective to land based communications infrastructure.

Information on language requirements
Knowledge of antenna and transmission lines systems used on land based communications infrastructure.
Knowledge of tower obstruction marking systems.
Knowledge of rigging techniques.
Knowledge of safety procedures and equipment that apply at a work site.
Ability to carry out rigger tasks respective to the lifecycle maintenance of communications systems.
Ability to safely operate and maintain industry specific tools used in construction and maintenance of communications towers.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Valid first aid certificate
Experience with the installation, maintenance and repairs of microwave and VHF tower and antenna systems.
Experience working around and traveling in helicopters, during the maintenance and construction of communication towers.
Experience in civil construction such as concrete foundation work or structural steel work.
Experience with low and high voltage electrical systems pertaining to obstruction lighting systems.
Experience in field/remote site operations.
Experience supervising on-site construction crews performing work on communication towers and related infrastructure.
Experience in planning, organizing, and scheduling resources.
Experience in working with minimum supervision.
Experience in operating a computer using MS office software at a Novice level (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer).
Experience and/or certification in the testing of radio frequency cables and antennas using spectrum analyzers.

Willing and able to climb towers and work at heights in excess of 2.4m.
Willing and able to travel for up to 3 week periods of time to remote sites via; trucks, boats and aircraft.
Willing and able to work weekends/overtime and travel on short notice.
Willing and able to access remote sites over rugged terrain and work outdoors in extremes of environmental conditions
