Intent of the process

A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the EG-03 group and level within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of post-secondary education in Engineering Technology, Laboratory Technology or an equivalent field related to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in designing equipment for physical tests on explosives, setting the equipment up, performing tests, recording results, and performing a preliminary assessment of the results against standards;
Experience in handling and using explosives and related materials;
Experience in the fabrication of equipment including the use of machine tools and welding equipment;
Experience installing and using different types of equipment such as sensors, transducers, probes and cameras (cameras, video cameras and high-speed cameras).

Knowledge of explosives within the meaning of the Explosives Act;
Knowledge of general health and safety requirements in the laboratory;
Knowledge of laboratory technology, including measurement of mass, volume, pressure and temperature;
Knowledge of basic scientific methodology, including evaluation of test results;
Knowledge of electricity and electronics, including circuits, and knowledge associated with the installation of test equipment and the connection of instruments and sensors.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

- Successful completion of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course. Non-restricted or Restricted Firearms.
- Natural Resources Canada Display Supervisor or Assistant certificate.
- Natural Resources Canada Pyrotechnician, Special Effects Pyrotechnician or Senior Pyrotechnician certificate.

Degree equivalency

Must be able to perform strenuous fieldwork, including lifting up to 25 kg;
Must travel to perform fieldwork, when required;
Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime;
Willingness to conduct field and laboratory work, sometimes under a variety of environmental climatic conditions.
Willingness to operate a forklift truck or similar equipment.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Valid driver’s licence;
Must wear personal protective equipment when required (safety glasses, face shields, respiratory protection, safety boots – all meeting recognized standards; and lab coats or coveralls).
