Duties

GT-03

As a GT-03 Multimedia Technician, the successful candidate will be responsible for participating in the development and maintenance of Accessible online training products for Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) following design specifications provided by various clients and using various multimedia technologies and following accessibility standards (including but not limited to: HTML5, CSS, SCSS, JavaScript, WCAG 2.0 AA, SCORM).

Prior to the development of the training products, the successful candidate will participate in various project team meetings with clients and project team members in the analysis of storyboards, course design plans, and other training documentation in order to provide advice and technical expertise in product programming, web interface design, and Accessibility requirements for the optimal online training solution.

The successful candidate will attend and collaborate on working groups and forums specialized in educational technology with a view to develop solutions for technical and design problems and product improvements.

GT-04

As a GT-04 Technical Advisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading various project teams in the development and maintenance of Accessible online training products for Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). Some of the activities required include, but are not limited to: development of project plan with timelines; identification of project resource requirements; assignment of project tasks to project members; leading regular project status and approval meetings; providing advice, guidance, and solutions as required to clients and management; project update reports.

The successful candidate will also be required to participate in the development and maintenance of Accessible online training products for Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) following design specifications provided by various clients and using various multimedia technologies and following accessibility standards (including but not limited to: HTML5, CSS, SCSS, JavaScript, WCAG 2.0 AA, SCORM).

Furthermore, the successful candidate will actively participate as a member or lead various working groups to assist in the identification and recommendation of various tools, techniques, practices, processes and templates for use in ESDC.

Work environment

The physical work location is configured to a Government of Canada Workplace 2.0 environment, which includes low baffles and open working spaces. Daily work will be performed in an open office environment involving ongoing exposure to office noise and frequent interruptions.

The job and work requires being part of a multidisciplinary team and involves solving problems and correcting errors over which the successful candidate has no control. Continuous effort is required to remain objective while analyzing facts and developing solutions. The work is subject to frequent interruptions from clients, multiple demands, conflicting work priorities, and changing deadlines and time pressures.

Because of the fast pace of the multimedia industry and its technological innovations, the successful candidate will be required to update his/her skills by following a continuous learning program through Internet searches and study including training sessions and conferences and reading applicable industry journals to keep this knowledge current. In addition, the successful candidate may be required to learn and be able to apply the differences in software upgrades (yearly).

Candidates must meet the essential qualifications to be appointed to a position.

The essential qualifications that are listed in the statement of merit criteria are mandatory. A pass mark will be established for each. Applicants may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In the event that there are as many applicants who meet the essential qualifications as there are vacancies, the manager may decide not to assess some or all of the asset qualifications.

Pass marks will be established for each qualification. However, achieving the pass mark is not a guarantee of an appointment or that candidates will be put through the next stages of the assessment process. A cut-off score or a top-down approach may be used at any step if there is a sufficient number of candidates to meet immediate and anticipated staffing needs.
