The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) is a federal department responsible to ensure the integrity and marketability of grain for the domestic and international grain trade, from producer to global customer.

This process will be used to staff 1 full-time determinate position.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar indeterminate, specified period employment, acting appointments, assignments, secondments or deployments.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
- Graduation with a Master degree from a recognized university with specialization in a field related to the duties of the position such as: plant science, food science, chemistry or related sciences.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
- Recent* and extensive** experience in conducting analytical tests for evaluation of food products or grain quality using related laboratory procedures.
- Recent* experience in developing, assessing and adapting tests and methods for characterizing and evaluating grain quality or food products.
- Recent* experience in planning and carrying out research projects.
- Recent* and extensive experience in operating, troubleshooting and maintaining modern laboratory equipment and instruments for grain analyses.
- Recent* experience in operating, troubleshooting and maintaining near-infrared spectrometers.
- Recent* and extensive** experience with critical assessment and validation of analytical results.
- Recent* experience with advanced statistical analysis and interpretation of scientific results.
- Recent* experience with preparation of scientific and technical reports and delivery of scientific presentations.
- Recent* experience with writing method descriptions and preliminary manuscripts for publication.

*Recent experience is defined as experience obtained within the last 3 years.
**Extensive experience is defined as 1 year in duration.

- Ph.D. degree in science with specialization in a field related to the duties of the position.

Experience:
- Experience with designing and carrying out research projects for investigating factors affecting the end use and value of oilseeds and other grains.
- Experience in carrying out research projects for investigating factors affecting end-use quality of grains.
- Experience in providing supervision, training and technical expertise to others.
- Experience with delivering oral presentations outside of the organization and at scientific meetings.
- Experience with developing near-infrared spectroscopy calibrations for grains quality factors.
- Experience with managing technical staff.

- Knowledge of analytical chemistry, analytical tests, and techniques for evaluation of grain quality.
- Knowledge of methods of collecting, compiling, and analyzing data.
- Knowledge of near-infrared spectroscopy, e.g. near-infrared spectroscopy principles, running samples and developing calibrations.
- Knowledge of statistics.
- Knowledge of grain chemistry and biochemistry.
- Knowledge of health and safety principles, policies and regulations.

- Ability and willingness to be exposed to and work with hazardous chemicals and laboratory equipment and to adherence to laboratory safety standards and procedures.
- Ability and willingness to wear protective clothing and/or equipment.
- Ability and willingness to maintain standing and/or sitting positions for extended periods.
- Ability and willingness to be exposed to grain and flour dust.
- Known allergies must be controlled through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication, and must not impinge upon the work to be performed.
- Ability and willingness to work overtime as required.

Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
