Work environment

Organization
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the court. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

Challenge
Candidates must be willing to work in a correctional environment where ongoing contact with federally sentenced offenders will be necessary.

EDUCATION
An acceptable combination of relevant education, training and experience working directly with/for an Indigenous community or designated Indigenous workplace.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Significant experience working with an Indigenous community or organization.

Experience in making presentations to diverse groups.

Experience in applying traditional Indigenous cultural and spiritual practices and values within a work unit.

Experience in the use of computers, including the creation of documents and/or reports.

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of Indigenous offender needs and/or community resources pertinent to Indigenous people.

Knowledge of Indigenous social, economic, historical and political structures and its impact on the Indigenous offending patterns.

Knowledge of Indigenous social support organizations and networks as they apply to Indigenous offender populations.

General knowledge of First Nations, Métis and Inuit cultures, traditions and spiritual/ceremonial processes.

Knowledge of federal legislation, (e.g., Corrections and Conditional Release Act, Indian Act) as it pertains to Indigenous peoples.

ABILITIES
Analytical skills

Cultural competency with respect to Indigenous peoples.

Ability to communicate with respect to Indigenous peoples.
