Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in chemistry.
EXPERIENCE:
E1: Significant experience** in operation, data processing, troubleshooting and maintenance of analytical or environmental field monitoring instrument (such as chromatographic techniques, Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscopy, gravimetric systems, Gas Dilution systems) and associated data systems.
E2: Experience* in preparation and analysis of samples or specialized sampling media, or in environmental field monitoring techniques used for the determination of trace pollutants in atmospheric or other environmental samples.
E3: Significant experience** in the development, validation and implementation of new analytical or field monitoring methods and technologies for measurement of trace level pollutants in atmospheric samples or other environmental matrices.
E4: Experience* in providing technical guidance to staff or contractors.
* Experience is defined as the depth and breadth of work-related experience that would normally have been gained by performing the duties for a continuous period of at least one (1) year in a domain relevant to the position.
** Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of work-related experience that would normally have been gained by performing the duties for a period of at least three (3) years in a domain relevant to the position.
EDUCATION:
Graduation with a post graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in chemistry, or in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
EXPERIENCE:
AE1: Experience in the evaluation and procurement of scientific instruments or equipment.
AE2: Experience in working in a laboratory accredited to ISO 17025.
AE3: Experience in analyzing volatile or semi-volatile organic compounds in atmospheric samples by GC-MS.
AE4: Experience in writing technical reports, methods and standard operation procedures pertaining to the operations of an environmental laboratory or ambient air monitoring program.
AE5: Experience in using a Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
AE6: Experience in collaborating with internal and external partners on the delivery of air quality programs.
AE7: Experience in implementing quality assurance and quality control procedures related to air quality monitoring activities, including field audits or data screening and validation.
AE8: Experience in developing, implementing and maintaining laboratory databases.

KNOWLEDGE:
K1: Knowledge of the fundamental techniques used for the collection of atmospheric samples for the measurement/determination of trace pollutants.
K2: Knowledge of analytical laboratory techniques, and the underlying chemistry used for the analysis of atmospheric samples.
K3: Knowledge of the atmospheric programs in Environment and Climate Change Canada.
K4: Knowledge of quality control and quality assurance principles relevant to the production of reliable data, such as those recommended under ISO17025.
ABILITIES:
A1: Ability to analyze, evaluate and interpret scientific data and report on results.
A2: Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
A3: Ability to plan and apply methods for field or laboratory measurements of environmental pollutants.
