Duties

The Market and Liquidity Risk Division (MLRD) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Toronto Office in the position of Senior Supervisor. The position will be part of a team providing expert market and liquidity risk services to the rest of OSFI to support timely identification of risks in capital markets activities and treasury operations at regulated financial institutions. Supervisory work also considers the adequacy of controls used by institutions to manage any identified risks. MLRD expertise includes market and counterparty risks, treasury and investment risks and liquidity risks affecting federally regulated deposit taking intuitions, insurers, and pension plans.

Major responsibilities of the position include the following activities:
• Provides expertise to supervisory teams carrying out reviews of financial institutions on matters pertaining to market and liquidity risks
• Carries out the review and analysis of all aspects of capital markets and treasury businesses with particular emphasis on front office, corporate treasury, valuations, and independent risk management
• Carries out benchmarking analysis comparing individual company results to industry averages/norms
• Identifies institutions’ risk profiles based on the inherent risks of significant activities and the quality of compensating controls
• Identifies changes in business trends or management methodologies
• Provides findings and recommendations to improve observed control deficiencies
• Prepares management reports for OSFI distribution as well as correspondence to send to regulated institutions
• Meet with senior management at OSFI and at regulated institutions to deliver findings, recommendations, rating assessments and/or other supervisory messages
• Identifies emerging risks in the area of expertise

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
• A degree from a post-secondary institution with specialization in accounting, business, commerce, economics, mathematics or another relevant field OR an acceptable combination of education, experience, and/or training.

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
• Recent and significant experience in the financial services industry* in Financial Analysis, Risk Management, or in the regulation of financial institutions.
• Recent experience assessing risk management practices related to market and/or liquidity risk.

*Financial services industry includes experience working in a financial institution, including banks, insurance companies, pension funds, wealth management firms, and accounting firms (dealing with audits), as well as government departments that directly deal with the supervision and regulation of these institutions, or other relevant areas.
