Duties

Natural Resources Canada's Canadian Centre for Mapping and Earth Observation (CCMEO) is currently looking for a talented and dynamic individual to fill a position in its LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data teams.

CCMEO is currently working on the implementation of the National Elevation Data Strategy. CCMEO acquires airborne LiDAR data for flood mapping, forest inventories, infrastructure management, etc. CCMEO works with provinces and territories to share existing data and participate in new acquisitions. In addition to meeting the modern needs of users, the National Elevation Data Strategy data represents an important new source of information and analysis. In order to use and take advantage of this large volume of new data, CCMEO has begun a transformation of its traditional processes to integrate cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and data cube.

As a LiDAR data specialist, you will join a dynamic and innovative team and play a leading role in LiDAR standardization in Canada and work to unlock the full potential of the data acquired.

As part of your duties, you will provide expertise to federal departments for the Airborne LiDAR acquisition. You will also advise the LiDAR data quality control team. You will lead the improvement of the Federal airborne LiDAR data acquisition guideline in partnership with the Canadian community and work to establish strategic partnerships for the use of 3D data in federal departments. Finally, you may be required to work on research and development projects and/or pilot projects to exploit LiDAR data.

Although CCMEO’s offices are located in Ottawa and Sherbrooke, other locations of work are possible for this position.
