Are you looking for a rewarding and challenging career in Atlantic Canada ? The Charlottetown Research and Development Centre is seeking a dynamic Farm Operations Manager to join their Harrington Research Farm. Reporting to the Associate Director of Research, Development and Technology this key role will oversee all daily farm activites; providing direction to staff, and supporting experimental field research. This will be achieved by collaborating with a team of onsite researchers and technicians or community stakeholders.
Responsabilities include:
•Providing guidance to management, scientists, technical staff and other external clients regarding agricultural research operations at the Farm.
•Effectively hiring, training, and supervising farm staff (including permanent, seasonal employees and students) on daily operational tasks.
•Overseeing safety for all who work on site and responsible for compliance of safety protocols by performing inspections and identifing anomolies and incorparating corrective measures.
•Participating in developing plans for land use in current and succeeding years.
•Coordinating the servicing and maintanence of farm equipment supported by a certified mechanic.
•Researching and participating in tendering documents, maintaining and compiling records and inventories, and preparing purchase requisitions for material and supplies.
Joining Agriculture and Agri-foods Canada means being part of a network of over 20 research centers across the country along with access to a vast community of expertise. Graduation with a diploma or degree in Agriculture from a recognized post-secondary institution or an acceptable combination of experience and a secondary school diploma.
Experience managing operational budgets and farm materials and equipment requirements.
Experience supervising and managing staff, setting priorities and managing work schedules.
Experience in the purchasing and procurement of farm equipment and supplies.
Experience using basic computer software programs such as the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
Degree from a post-secondary institution with specialization in agriculture.
Experience calibrating and operating a variety of farm machinery.
Experience in maintaining modern farm machinery.
Experience in working in a modern agricultural research environment.
Experience in pest management and disease control in field crops.
