Duties

Correctional Service of Canada is looking for relief instructors, ornamental groundkeeper and maintenance Tradesperson to perform various tasks related to the maintenance of roads, land and buildings.

Stream 1 – General Duty and Relief Instructor
The selected person will be asked to perform as a relief officer for maintenance shops that include: grounds, labor, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, metal, paint, masonry, service plant, composter and garage for a facility of the Correctional Service of Canada.

Stream 2 - Ornamental Groundskeeper
The selected person will be asked to perform maintenance and repairs of institutional grounds, landscaping, horticulture, roads and parking lots. This person will be responsible of greenhouse operations, heavy and farm equipment services, snow removal, landscape design and installation services for facilities of the Correctional Service of Canada.

Stream 3 - Maintenance Tradesperson
The selected person will be asked to perform general maintenance (corrective and preventive), construction and, in some institutions, minor service of vehicles and/or groundskeeping services for clients within facilities of the Correctional Service of Canada.

Work environment

The Technical Services, Quebec Region, of Correctional Service Canada is a stimulating and dynamic environment mission is to ensure the operation, compliance and sustainability of a real estate portfolio of more than $ 8 billion dollars in an operational environment. We are responsible for institutions and penitentiary clusters as well as parole offices and community correctional centers located throughout Quebec. The facilities we manage are diverse such as buildings and structures, building mechanics systems, electrical distribution networks, infrastructures, generators, oil tanks, thermal power stations, water treatment and purification plants, roads, fences and barriers, and automobile fleets to name only those. Depending on the location of your position, you may be required to work in our regional office or in one of our local teams in an institution.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates will be establish following this process, and will be use to staff similar positions for indeterminate or temporary positions for imminent needs in the regions of Sainte-Anne-Des-Plaines, Drummondville and Cowansville within the Correctional Service of Canada. This pool may also be used to staff similar positions within the Correctional Service of Canada in the Quebec region.

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience – Stream 1 – General Duty and Relief Instructor

Experience controlling an inventory.

Experience supervising workers.

Experience* and/or training in the operations, repair and/or maintenance of building architectural/structural components (such as heating, air conditioning, ventilation, plumbing and electrical systems normally associated with Building Operator Maintainer A or certification as a 4th Class Stationary Engineer, and complimentary experience in the maintenance of small buildings).

*Minimum of 1 year experience in the last 3 years.

Experience – Stream 2 - Ornamental Groundskeeper

Experience* delivering grounds maintenance services.

Experience* operating grounds maintenance equipment.**

Experience supervising workers.

*Minimum of 1 year experience in the last 3 years.
**Equipment is defined as landscaping, snow removal, farming or similar machinery.

Experience – Stream 3 - Maintenance Tradesperson

Experience* in the operations, repair and/or maintenance of building architectural/structural components (such as heating, air conditioning, ventilation, plumbing and electrical systems normally associated with infrastructure and building maintenance).

Experience in the maintenance of motorized equipment.

Experience supervising workers.

*Minimum of 1 year experience in the last 3 years.

EDUCATION:

Graduation from a recognized college (2 years minimum) in a related field.

Post Secondary - Certificate program associated with Building and/or Facility system maintenance or acceptable equivalent.

Degree equivalency

Applicable Provincial certification required to perform the duties of the position.
Certification in a relevant trade.
Possession of valid Fall Protection Certification.
Possession of valid Confined Space Certification.
Possession of valid Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certification.

Experience working in a correctional environment.
Experience in the use of hydraulic press brakes, sheet metal sheers and welding equipment.
Experience operating powered lift equipment with up to 7,000-pound capacity.
