Note:
Reporting to the NCR, qualified candidates will be considered to join the team virtually, from any of the Transport Canada (TC) offices listed in the area of selection. The employee will be expected to perform all functions of the position regardless of the TC Office in which they are located and will report to the Chief, Occupational Health & Safety in Ottawa, Ontario. This does not imply telework.

The position is supported by the Corporate OHS office both in person and in a virtual environment. Under the auspices of Corporate OHS, as an Occupational Health and Safety Advisor, duties include:
- Identifies and analyzes the short and long-term occupational health and safety (OHS) program needs of the regions, and develops and recommends strategies and initiatives to address them.
- Facilitates and guides the implementation of corporate OHS plans, policies, systems and procedures as well as the application of the OHS regulatory requirements to Transport Canada.
- Monitors, evaluates and reports on the level of client compliance with federal OHS acts, regulations, codes and standards.
- Plans, organizes, supports and/or leads the conduct of OHS investigations and inspections.
- Designs, develops and delivers OHS communications plans and information, training and awareness sessions at the national/regional level.
- Participates as a member of OHS multi-jurisdictional project teams.
- Develops and maintains interactive and consultative relationships with a variety of OHS program partners and stakeholders.

Education:
ED: A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE
EX1: Recent* experience in managing activities related to an occupational health and safety (OHS) program.
EX2: Experience in developing training material or delivering training sessions to employees and multiple levels of management.
EX3: Experience in providing OHS advice and guidance to managers, regional and/or workplace OHS committees or representatives as well as employees.
EX4: Experience in conducting hazardous occurrence investigations.
*NOTE: Recent experience is defined as experience generally acquired within the last two (2) years.
Experience gained as a member of an OHS committee is not sufficient.
Asset Qualifications:
EDUCATION
AED1: Post-secondary diploma from a recognized institution in a field relevant to the position such as Occupational Health and Safety.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
OC: Professional designation in OHS.
AEX1: Experience in developing policy instruments such as directives, procedures and guides.

K2: Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of federal departments and central agencies in the area of OHS.
