This process may be used to establish a pool of qualified or partially qualified candidates to staff similar or identical positions with various security requirements, various tenures (indeterminate, specified period, deployment, acting, assignment and secondment), various bilingual linguistic profiles and conditions of employment within the Department of National Defence.

Successful completion of secondary school education or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Occupational Certification:
OC1- NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I & II
OC2- NFPA 1031 Fire inspector Level I
OC3- NFPA 472 Awareness/Operations Level or Military Equivalent.
OC4- Appropriately endorsed certification from a recognized service provider in standard/basic first aid and “Level C” Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), or higher.
OC5- A valid, unrestricted class DZ driver’s license (Truck with airbrake endorsement) issued by the province of Ontario or provincial or territorial equivalent (a current and acceptable Driver’s Abstract will be required before an appointment can be made).
Experience:
EX1 - Experience with building Inspections.
EX2 - Experience with all sprinkler systems.
EX3 - Experience with kitchen suppression systems.
EX4 - Experience with clean agent suppression systems.
EX5 - Experience with National Fire Code of Canada.
EX6 - Experience with National Building Code of Canada.

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
OR1- Willingness to participate in fire fighters physical fitness and maintenance programs.
- Security/Reliability: Reliability clearance.
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted class DZ driver’s license issued by the province of Ontario.
- Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain the DND 404 military driver’s licence.
- Must meet and maintain medical standards of Health Canada in accordance with Treasury Board Guidelines for a firefighter.
- Must pass or have passed the Canadian Forces Fire Marshal Firefighter Pre-Entry Fitness Evaluation within the last year (The cost of the evaluation is at the candidate’s expense)
- Must be willing to attend and successfully complete applicable trade related training selected and scheduled by the employer.
- Must be willing to wear and utilize Personal Protective Equipment in compliance with safety regulation/policy.
- Must attain and successfully complete the SP100 course recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources at the candidate’s expense within the next 18 months from the beginning of employment.
- Must maintain a reasonable availability to report quickly for overtime in emergency situations
