Duties

The Correctional Service of Canada is looking for an electrician to perform various work for building and infrastructure maintenance. The candidate’s main responsibilities will be to ensure the good working order of electrical components such as motors, heating systems, cooling systems, communication systems, transformers, indoor or outdoor lighting systems, cable distribution and telephone systems, electromechanical systems, automation systems, programmable controllers, control systems and new equipment and services. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance; inspects electrical equipment and systems; diagnoses potential problems, safety hazards, operating faults and failures. Also, proceed with the wiring and installation of conduits for electrical, telecommunication, and optical systems.

Work environment

The Technical Services, Quebec Region, of Correctional Service Canada is a stimulating and dynamic environment mission is to ensure the operation, compliance and sustainability of a real estate portfolio of more than $ 8 billion dollars in an operational environment. We are responsible for institutions and penitentiary clusters as well as parole offices and community correctional centers located throughout Quebec. The facilities we manage are diverse such as buildings and structures, building mechanics systems, electrical distribution networks, infrastructures, generators, oil tanks, thermal power stations, water treatment and purification plants, roads, fences and barriers, and automobile fleets to name only those. Depending on the location of your position, you may be required to work in our regional office or in one of our local teams in an institution.

Intent of the process

An inventory of qualified candidates will be establish following this process, and will be used to staff similar positions for indeterminate or temporary positions for imminent needs in all institutions within the Correctional Service Canada in the Quebec region. A pool of potential candidate may be selected at any time during the posting period of this process to begin the evaluation of the submitted applications.

Education

A secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification

Possession of a valid Journeyman Electrician Certification (Provincial or Interprovincial)

Experience:

Experience* in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment, infrastructure and associated control systems in a manufacturing, industrial or institutional environment.

Experience* working with any of the following: Computer Maintenance Management Systems, Building Automation or Management Control Systems and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).

*Experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience generally acquired by the regular performance of the duties for a minimum period of one (1) year.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Successful completion of any work related continuing education courses related to relevant facility maintenance or workplace safety.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

Experience managing the electrical component of construction and maintenance projects.

Experience resolving Arc-Flash hazards related to electrical equipment.

Experience working in a correctional facility.
