Work environment

Are you interested in being a recruiter? At the Public Service Commission of Canada (PSC), we are looking for a leader who can engage with Canadians and collaborate with their colleagues. We call this person a Human Resources (HR) Advisor. Our HR Advisors are responsible for engaging with diverse communities and promoting careers with the Government of Canada. Our HR Advisors are specialists in creating relationships. What does that mean? Well, here is a day in the life of an HR Advisor at the PSC:

You come into work at our downtown Vancouver office. You are greeted by your colleagues as you enter our open-concept office. You continue on to your workstation, where you have a sit-stand desk and a floor-to-ceiling window. You also have the option to use our active workstation, allowing you to catch up on your emails while walking on a treadmill. Who’s emailing you today? Mostly your colleagues, which includes people in your office, coworkers across Canada, as well as representatives from other Government departments. There will also be some members of the public looking to connect with you. You will be organizing meetings, conferences, panels, workshops, career fairs, presentations, information sessions and other types of events. The exciting part? You get to attend the events! Your region of responsibility is British Columbia, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and the Yukon. Get ready to pack your bags and recruitment materials! You could be hopping on a seaplane to Vancouver Island today, or taking a vehicle to your next outreach destination in the Fraser Valley. You will experience many different parts of Canada, from the sea to the sky. You will also meet a lot of new people, so be prepared to engage and communicate with the diversity of all Canadians. Through these various experiences, you will develop strong public speaking skills, the qualities of a leader, and the adaptability of someone who can conquer a constantly changing environment.

For this role, we are looking for an Indigenous person who is passionate about engaging with Indigenous communities. We are looking for someone to promote our student and graduate employment programs (such as the Indigenous Student Employment Opportunity) and to work closely with our Aboriginal Centre of Expertise. We are looking for someone who can inspire Indigenous candidates to apply on the hundreds of career options that the Government of Canada offers.

Did we mention this is a developmental opportunity? We don’t expect you to arrive as a seasoned expert. You will start at an entry-level Human Resources Advisor position (PE-01 level), which starts at a salary range of $52,463 to $65,261 per year. With training and experience, you will progress to the PE-02 level, and then the PE-03 level, which has a salary range of $74,207 to $82,482 per year.
