Assessment accommodation

Please note that we intend to complete this selection process very quickly.

For this process, we intend to conduct interviews before exams.

Tentative assessment dates are as follows:
• Interviews will tentatively be held the week of December 2nd
• Exams will tentatively be held December 6 - 9 (take home exam)

Candidates who are successful at the screening stage are expected to be prepared for assessments on short notice, and are expected to make themselves available for assessment dates.

Candidates who are successful at the interview stage will be asked to provide references before the exam stage. Exams and references may be completed concurrently.

It is the candidate’s responsibility to provide references who are reachable AND willing to complete the reference check within a short timeframe (3 business days).

Work environment

CORE is a recently appointed dispute resolution mechanism, the first of its kind in the world. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about CORE’s mandate to promote the implementation of responsible business conduct, and to receive and review allegations of human rights abuses arising from the operations abroad of Canadian companies in the garment, mining, and oil and gas sectors. The ideal candidate will embrace the opportunities as well as challenges that new start-ups offer, and will look forward to being part of an enthusiastic team creating something innovative.

Intent of the process

The current intention of this selection process is to staff 1 position on an indeterminate basis with a language requirement bilingual imperative CBC/CBC. A pool of partially qualified and/or fully qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions within Global Affairs Canada with various language requirements and/or various tenures, according to the positions being staffed.

EDUCATION

ED1 - A bachelor of law degree.

ED2 - Eligibility for membership in the Bar of one of the provinces or territories of Canada or in the Order of Notaries in the Province of Quebec.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

EX1 - Extensive* experience providing legal and strategic advice to senior management, investigative agencies, or government officials.

EX2 - Extensive* experience implementing or managing a complex complaint or regulatory process.

EX3 - Experience managing legal teams or consultants.

EX4 - Significant** experience in administrative law.

EX5 - Significant** experience in human rights law.

*Extensive is defined as the depth and the breadth of experience normally acquired over a period of approximately ten (10) years.

** Significant is defined as the depth and the breadth of experience normally acquired over a period of approximately five (5) years.

EXPERIENCE

AEX1 - Experience in commercial law.

AEX2 - Experience in corporate law and business structures (contracts, agreements and confidentiality issues).

AEX3 - Experience with investigations, joint or independent fact-finding, negotiation, or mediation.

AEX4 - Experience working with Indigenous Peoples.

AEX5 - Experience working with Indigenous Peoples’ Rights.

AEX6 - Experience working with Human Rights.

AEX7 - Experience working with public servants at the Assistant Deputy Minister or Deputy Minister-level, or private sector equivalent.
