Duties

The Protective Technical Systems Specialist is responsible for design services, contract development and administration. Duties include installation, quality assurance and maintenance services for technical protective systems, such as intrusion detection, access control and video surveillance to protect the assets and people of the RCMP, embassies, consulates, persons at risk, and special events such as first minister's meetings, the Olympics and other designated assets.

Work environment

Position is located in the Northwest Territories Divisional Headquarters - 5010 Veterans Memorial Drive (49th Avenue), Yellowknife, NT, X1A 2R3.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one position on an indeterminate (permanent) basis, with an English Essential linguistic profile and a RCMP Top Secret security clearance. A pool of candidates may be established and used to staff future vacancies.

EDUCATION:
Successful completion of two (2) years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
- Extensive and recent experience in the computer engineering technology field, preferably with emphasis on security systems and digital Closed-Circuit Video Equipment (CCVE).
- Extensive and recent experience operating electronic test equipment and with test procedures in both analog and digital systems.
- Recent experience in system performance analysis, problem analysis and documentation.
- Experience in technical project management and development of specifications.

Extensive and recent experience refers to the depth and breadth of relevant experience gained through the sustained fulfilment of key responsibilities for a period of approximately five (5) or more years, within the last seven (7) years.

Recent experience is defined as experience acquired within the last five (5) year period, approximately.

- Experience in the maintenance and installation of protective security equipment.

Conditions of employment

Top Secret security clearance - RCMP Top Secret security clearance
All applicants for positions within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be subject to a thorough security clearance process which includes an interview wherein questions may include (but not limited to), reference checks, previous employment, on-line activities, credit checks, alcohol and/or drug use.

OTHER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Medical Clearance - Candidate and dependent(s) (if applicable) must meet and maintain the medical/psychological profile standards established for Isolated posts. The RCMP will not be responsible for costs associated to applicants' medical examinations.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively across Canada and within NWT (including remote sites) for training, meetings or to support RCMP operations.
- Willingness and ability to travel by various modes of transportation including vehicle, boat, helicopter or small plane.
- Must conform to standards set for travel on RCMP PC-12 Pilatus Aircraft, including maximum passenger weight restriction of 400lbs (which includes clothing and equipment).
- Willingness and ability to travel overnight, sometimes for extended periods
- Willingness and ability to work overtime, including work outside of normal core hours and being on call, when required.
- Willingness and ability to lift, carry and place heavy objects up to 40 lbs. in a safe manner to support RCMP operations.
