Western Economic Diversification is looking for a Communications Officer to join our team. If you are motivated and interested in an exciting opportunity in a dynamic department please apply.
We are looking for people who think independently, work creatively and enjoy working in a team environment to support the priorities of the department. As a Communications Officer, you will be challenged to:
• provide communication services for management, staff of Western Economic Diversification Canada and Business Service Network partners within the Alberta Region
• write and produce high quality communications products such as news releases, speaking notes, and social media messages
• provide creative and graphic design expertise and support to online and offline communications initiatives utilizing programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign.

Education:
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design or related field.
NOTES:
• Based on their education, training and/or experience, indeterminate incumbents of positions in the IS classification are deemed to meet the minimum education standard whenever a bachelor's degree without specialization is called for in a position classified as IS.
• An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum education standard.
Experience:
*Recent and **significant experience in researching, writing and editing of communication products, such as: media advisories, news releases and speeches for senior officials.
Recent* experience in creating innovative and high quality design, artwork and layout for communications materials such as PowerPoint presentations, online and offline publications, web graphics, web pages, etc..
Providing event management and social media assistance at press conferences and media availabilities.
*Recent within the last two (2) years.
**Significant is understood to mean the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex, related activities for a minimum of two (2) years.

Experience:
• Experience in developing and delivering visual design concepts and creatives such as : digital publications, infographics, videos, motion graphics, multimedia presentations and/or web sites
• Experience consulting with clients and stakeholders on the development of graphic design products or videos
• Experience developing scripts, storylines and storyboards for video and/or animation products and/or developing infographics from various sources of content
• Experience providing quality control services for the production of visual communications products
• Experience in the development/coding of Web pages or Web sites
• Depth, breadth and scope of experience in any one or combination of the experience requirements.
