Work environment

The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers. DND's role is to provide services and support to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in their operations and missions at home and abroad. As a civilian employee, you will be an essential part of the Defence Team.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff 3 indeterminate positions in Wainwright, Alberta (2 Carpenters and 1 Carpentry Supervisor) . A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions, with varying tenures in various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Possession of a valid Alberta Journeyman Carpenter Certificate or any other equivalency recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board (such as carpenter trade certificate with an Interprovincial Red Seal, certificate of Military Achievement Qualification Level 5 - Construction Technician MOSID00306, Alberta Carpenter Qualification Certificate, etc).

Experience in one or more of the following principles and practices of the carpentry trade: such as but not limited to:
• general carpentry work
• building construction
• framing wood structures
• making/finishing cabinets and furniture
• building maintenance
• and/or the construction of buildings

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience in roofing.

Experience in locksmithing.

Experience coaching apprentices.

Experience using Flexi-Sign software.
Experience using a computer and design software.
Experience working with a laser engraving machine.

Note: Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally acquired by performing a broad range of various, complex related activities over a period of approximately three (3) years.

Experience supervising* – GL WOW 10 only

Note :

* Supervising is defined as having the authority to assign work, to assess performance and to take appropriate corrective measures when necessary, for a sustained period of time (ideally over one performance cycle, i.e. approximately one year).

- GL-WOW 9 $28.22 to $30.68
- GL-WOW 10 $29.34 to $31.88 plus 15% supervisory differential
