WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER I APPLY?

Here is a summary of what you can expect:

• STEP 1
The information you provide will be closely reviewed by our management team, with a focus on your education and experience. This will help us determine if you will be further assessed. Once we review the applications, if you have the qualifications required, we will contact you about proceeding to Step 2.

• STEP 2
If you reach this phase, you will be invited to demonstrate your skills. We may use a variety of different tools to assess them, including interviews, written tests, or online evaluations. We will advise you and provide you with time to prepare. This is a really important step for you and for us, as it lets you demonstrate your talent and lets us ensure you will be successful in our organization. This phase will take longer than the other phases, but the end result will be worth the time investment.

• STEP 3
If you have been successful in demonstrating your skills, our management team will be excited to meet you, either in person or virtually, to validate and further understand what we have learned about you. We may also assess what other assets you can bring to our team and where you best fit in.

• STEP 4

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff six (6) positions in the National Capital Region with various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French essential, bilingual imperative of various levels).

A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates will be established from this process which may be used to staff similar positions within the Department of Justice in various work locations, with various tenures, various language requirements (as listed above) various operational requirements and/or various conditions of employment.

There are currently no vacant positions outside the National Capital Region (Ottawa). As such, candidates who are only interested in work locations outside of Ottawa will be assessed for future (anticipatory) needs.

EDUCATION - STREAM 1 & 2

• ED1 - A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Note:

Based on education, training and/or experience, indeterminate incumbents of positions in the IS classification are deemed to meet the minimum education standard whenever a bachelor's degree without specialization is called for in a position classified as IS.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE - STREAM 1

• EX1: Experience in developing or editing strategic communications or digital communications products such as, but not limited to: communication plans, news releases, media advisories, media lines, backgrounders, fact sheets, frequently asked questions, articles, web content, media summaries, social media content and videos.
• EX2: Experience in coordinating communications products or communications projects with clients, stakeholders or colleagues.
• EX3: Experience in providing communications advice on the use of communications products or tools, such as but not limited to: social media, web content, or media monitoring.

EXPERIENCE - STREAM 2

• EX1: Experience in coordinating web publishing requests, such as but not limited to, HTML, Web Experience Toolkit components and W3C Accessibility standards and guidelines.
• EX2: Experience in providing strategic advice to clients and management on web publishing, including website development.
• EX3: Experience in reviewing web publishing requests to ensure compliance with relevant web standards and policies.

ASSET EDUCATION - STREAM 1 & 2

• AED1: A diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or Media Studies.

• AEX1: Experience in providing analysis on the performance and results of digital communications activities.
• AEX2: Experience with various web publishing and social media publishing software such as, but not limited to: Adobe Creative Cloud, Dreamweaver and Hootsuite.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENT - STREAM 1 & 2

• OP1: Willingness and ability to work overtime on short notice

STREAM 2

• OP2: Willingness and ability to work between the hours of 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
