ABOUT THE JOB:
This position is responsible for coordination of Indigenous engagement and consultation activities in the region. It is focused primarily on liaising between the region and headquarters, facilitating the exchange of information and supporting the coordination of activities between regional staff who engage with Indigenous peoples in the course of delivering their programs, coordinating reporting on those activities, providing/facilitating training, and providing/disseminating resources, strategic advice and guidance related to Indigenous engagement and consultation. The position will also be responsible for internal and possibly external outreach activities/events.
At times, the position may be responsible for leading direct engagement and/or consultation. Some technical skills will be required in order to utilize and make modifications to a regional tracking system and website. This position may include responsibilities related to non-Indigenous engagement in the future.
The intent of this process is to staff one Senior Policy Advisor position in Winnipeg, MB. A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff this position in DFO Winnipeg, MB only. .

EDUCATION:
- Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Economics, Sociology or Statistics.

The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. EXPERIENCE:
- Significant* experience working with Indigenous organizations or communities
- Significant* experience developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with organizations and/or communities**, such as environmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, provincial/territorial/federal departments, hunter and trapper organizations, Indigenous communities, land claims organizations and First Nations.
- Experience collaborating and consulting with internal and external partners to advance complex*** policy or program issues
- Experience managing programs or projects and achieving results
- Experience identifying client needs and providing support or solutions
- Experience providing strategic policy advice to senior management****
*Significant means the depth and breadth associated with a minimum of two years of work experience.

Be clear about your specific role): fisheries management, aquaculture, aquatic invasive species, species at risk, environmental assessment, fish and fish habitat management, infrastructure development, conservation, and/or natural resources.
