As part of the Canadian Coast Guard's Aids to Navigation and Waterways Program, Lighstations assist in the safe movement of marine traffic. On the East Coast, 24 lightstations serve mariners, operating on a 24/7 365 days-a-year basis. While some lightstations are located in remote areas and are accessible only by helicopter, the majority of them are located adjacent to small coastal towns in Atlantic Canada. Lightstation work schedules are rotational and can range from 7-days to 28-days.
* Lightkeeper positions (LI-03 to LI-08) *
The Aids to Navigation section is looking for an outgoing confident individual who would like to join our team and who would be responsible for ensuring that the lightstation is always in a state of readiness. As the Assistant Lightkeeper you will be responsible for keeping watch at the station to ensure mariners are safe as they transit Canada’s beautiful coastal regions. As Assistant Principal Lightkeeper you will be encouraged to taking on new challenges and putting forth any ideas to help maintain your station to make sure it is always in a state of readiness. As the Principal Lightkeeper you will be responsible for the overall operation of the lightstation, including supervision of the lightstation staff. LOCATION:
Lighthouses on the East Coast are located across Atlantic Canada, more specifically: Machias Seal Island, Bell Island, Cape Anguille, Cape Bonavista, Cape Norman, Cape Race, Cape Ray, Cape St. Marys's, Fort Amherst, Fort Point, Fortune Head, Fox Point, Green Island – Catalina, Green Island – Fortune Bay, Lamaline (Allans Island), Long Point – Twillingate, New Ferolle Peninsula, Ramea, Pass Island, Powles Head, Puffin Island, Red Bay, St. Shotts and Tides Cove Point.
A first round of assessment from this inventory will be done one (1) month after posting and subsequent assessments will be completed depending on the need to staff positions. Selected candidates will be contacted by email or by phone for further assessment.

Your résumé.
EXP1. Experience in performing routine maintenance tasks on buildings and grounds such as mowing, trimming, painting and minor carpentry.
EXP2. Experience in operating and performing front-line maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment such as motors, generators, power tools and boats.
Certifcation
1. Possession of Small Vessel Operators Proficiency Certificate or higher certification, such as Fishing Master I, II, III, Watchkeeping Mate, etc.
2. Possession of a Restricted Operator's certificate (Maritime)
AEXP1. Experience operating a boat and outboard motors
AEXP2. Experience working in isolated or semi-isolated locations
AEXP3. Experience working in a marine environment
AEXP4. Experience in the use of email, web browsing or Word processing.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be willing and able to work at an isolated Lightstation for up to 28 days at a time or to commute back and forth to a land-based site on a daily basis for up to 28 days at a time.
- Must be willing and able to work shifts in a 24/7 environment in all weather conditions
- Must be willing and able to depart for a lightstation from a designated point of departure as required.
Reliability Status security clearance
- Valid Health Canada Medical (clearance Periodic Category 2 (new hires: Health Canada Pre-placement Category 3)
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
- Must be willing and able to travel using various modes of transportation, including helicopters and small boats.
