Work environment

Base Information Services (BIS) is a unit within the Department of National Defence (DND). BIS is the IT Service Management Centre (SMC) for all DND bases within Halifax Regional Municipality as well as some outlying areas of Nova Scotia.

Services include DND network support, procurement of IT equipment, IT support to Ships, etc.

As a Project Manager, your duties would include managing IT projects for our multitude of clients. You will work with Subject Matter Experts (SME) to determine the scope of what is being requested, and will plan out the steps required to ensure each project is implemented in a timely manner.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill one (1) vacancy immediately. A pool of candidates will be created.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

Successful completion of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

EXPERIENCE:

Recent experience in utilizing formalized Project Management practices with clients in an IT environment. Must include: Initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing. (Recent= 2 yrs experience within the last 5 years)

Experience in engaging stakeholders.

Experience facilitating meetings with stakeholders including at least one of the following: clients, technical experts, or management.

Experience in the development of project documentation. Must include at least 3 of the following: project plans, schedules, reports, project charters, and project updates.
