Work environment

This position is located in a law enforcement environment. It involves regular contact with uniformed and armed police officers, as well as contact with civilian staff who work in police detachments and offices. The position is based in the RCMP Detachment in Squamish BC, and provides IT support to a number of RCMP detachments in the Sea-to-Sky and Sunshine Coast areas of British Columbia.

Sea-to-Sky: Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, Mount Currie & Bowen Island.

Sunshine Coast: Sechelt & Gibson’s Landing

Travel to sites outside of Squamish is required for ‘hands on’ support work like installing computers, favouring the use of Microsoft ‘remote control’ software to resolve computer issues when possible. There’s an occasional requirement to travel to our Surrey headquarters and other locations for meetings and other work related activities. A vehicle with credit card for vehicle expenses is provided for travel, and travel expenses such as meals, ferries, parking etc. are reimbursed.

The position is part of the Lower Mainland Computer Services Unit, where the manager is located in our Surrey BC headquarters and other staff in the Unit are located at client sites throughout Lower Mainland. The individual needs to be able to work independently for most day-to-day IT support, with access to other IT support resources/information within the organization provided through email, telephone, Intranet and central documentation.

The anticipated intent/result of this process is to indeterminately staff (on a full time basis) one position.

Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member.

Education:
Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed, OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Notes:
1. Indeterminate period incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standards based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the CS group.
2. It is the recognized educational institution (e.g. community college, CÉGEP or university) that determines if the courses taken by a candidate correspond to two years of a post-secondary program at the institution.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Recent* and significant** experience implementing and supporting current Windows operating systems, end user software and end-user computers/peripherals in a networked environment.
Recent* and significant** experience providing technical support and guidance to users.

*RECENT is defined as experience obtained within the last two (2) years.
**SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCE refers to the breadth and depth of experience in the IM/IT field that would normally be acquired over a period of six (6) months or more.
