Assessment accommodation

We are looking for a new HR Advisor to join our team. If you have experience in HR and you are looking to join a fun team where you can help clients with unique HR questions AND grow your HR experience, this could be the job for you!

In addition to providing a super opportunity for career growth and development, this job in Iqaluit comes with a competitive salary, health and dental benefits, an employee pension PLUS applicable northern allowances $22,000/year to $38,000/year, as well as vacation travel assistance for you, your spouse/common-law partner and eligible dependents, of approximately $2,700.00 per adult / $2,400 per child, twice per year*.

Subsidized federal government housing and relocation assistance are available.

We are looking to fill this position with an Inuk enrolled in the Nunavut Agreement but we also encourage others who are interested to also apply.

Duties

At CanNor, HR Advisors are generalists who work on all aspects of HR. Most new HR Advisors come to the team with experience in one or two areas and then they develop in the other areas through experience and training. There is often an opportunity to travel for training.

Over time, HR Advisors get experience working in staffing, recruitment, training, labour relations, classification/job evaluation, HR planning and compensation. We may be biased but we think CanNor is the best place to work in human resources!

Work environment

As an HR Advisor at CanNor, you would be part of a friendly and supportive HR team. You would provide client support to colleagues at our headquarters in Iqaluit and also to colleagues in offices in the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Ottawa.

Intent of the process

The immediate intent of this selection process is to fill 1 full-time position. Preference will be given to Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement (e.g Beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement). The names of qualified candidates may also be shared with other federal organizations in Nunavut.

Education:

There are various ways you can meet the education requirements for this position:

• An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience, that is comparable to a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization relevant to the work to be performed ;

OR

• A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in human resources management, labour or industrial relations, psychology, public or business administration, organizational development, education sciences, social sciences, sociology, or in any other field relevant to the work to be performed.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

• Experience working in human resources*.

* Candidates are encouraged to submit their applications describing their experience in human resources. This experience in HR may include work in: staffing, recruitment, classification/job evaluation, labour relations, pay and benefits, training or HR planning. English essential
The language of work in Iqaluit is English and we provide services and encourage people to speak in English, Inuktut and French. The ability to communicate in English is essential.

Asset qualifications:

• Significant* experience in providing advice and guidance to clients in the field of Human Resources.

*Significant refers to the depth and breadth of experience associated with the performance of a broad range of related activities which were primarily the candidate’s responsibility.

• Experience working in a cross-cultural environment, specifically as it relates to Inuit culture and values.

• Experience working in Nunavut, Northwest Territories or Yukon.

• Ability to communicate in Inuktut.

Organizational needs:
(Not essential, but preference may be given to candidates who possess the organizational needs)
Preference given to Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement (e.g. Beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement).

Operational requirements:
• Willingness and ability to work overtime on occasion.

Conditions of employment

• Reliability Status security clearance – In the federal government, there are levels of security in order to protect sensitive information, assets and work sites. We are happy to answer any questions candidates might have about this requirement. It is a normal part of the staffing process.

• Health Canada Medical Clearance (if required) – If the successful candidate is not located in the North, the candidate and his/her dependents (including spouse or common-law partner and children) may be required to obtain Health Canada medical clearance. This is a normal part of the process because Iqaluit, Nunavut is considered to be an Isolated Post.
