Duties

As the recognized Occupational Safety subject matter expert for the Division, the position: develops, recommends and oversees the implementation of the policy and procedural frameworks, systems and standards guiding the implementation of the OS program, provides expert advisory services and
monitors the delivery of the OS program.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill one permanent position in Newmarket, Ontario. A pool may be created to staff the same or similar positions on a permanent or temporary basis.

Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals.

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Experience coordinating an occupational health and safety program and/or project (as examples: risk prevention program, work place accident management program, job hazard analyses).

Experience providing advice regarding the application of occupational health and safety regulations, and/or standards, and/or industry codes of practice.

Experience conducting investigations related to occupational health and safety.

Experience conducting inspections related to occupational health and safety.

Experience providing training.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

A certificate or diploma from a recognized Canadian university or college in occupational health, industrial hygiene, health physics, safety management, loss control management, safety engineering or any other field relevant to the work to be performed.

Experience conducting investigations related to Chapter XX of the Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations (Violence Prevention in the Work Place).

Requirement to occasionally work irregular hours and overtime.

Requirement to occasionally travel.

Valid provincial driver's license or personal mobility to the degree normally associated with a driver's license.

Requirement to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as personal flotation devices, protective footwear, respiratory protection and fall protection equipment. Some of these items may be heavy or cumbersome.

Successful candidates will require a valid RCMP security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain an RCMP security clearance may involve but is not limited to a security/reliability interview and a field investigation which includes matters of criminal activity, verification of credit/financial status, reference checks, education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.

Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
