Duties

The Determination Process for access to Occupational Health Care Benefits is used internally by the RCMP to assist in identifying whether an illness or injury is work-related to ensure that members are directed to the appropriate envelope of health care benefits.
The Determination Process Nurse will be responsible to:
• Review claim files submitted by the divisional Occupational Health Services (OHS) offices.
• Contact members to provide their account of the injury/illness and incident. If required request additional information from the member during the initial phone call and in writing.
• Research of accurate and up to date evidence based medical information to support claims.
• Consult with the RCMP National Advisor for Medical Case Management, the National Medical Advisor and the Chief Psychologist at any point throughout the determination process.
• Make recommendations of work-relatedness and prepare a letter explaining the positive and/or negative determination.
• Ensure member’s RCMP medical files are returned to the divisional OHS office.
• Prepare monthly and ad-hoc determination process reports.
• Facilitate quarterly / biannually videoconference meetings with divisional OHS nurses.
• Provide support and input to the Occupational Health Management and Accommodation Programs.

The hours of work are from Monday to Friday for 7.5 hours a day during regular business hours. This position would give you access to various on-site services such as a cafeteria, Tim Horton's, gift shop, dry cleaning, parking and free access to an equipped gym which also offers fitness club classes for a fee.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one position in the National Capital Region on an indeterminate basis, with a linguistic profile of Bilingual Imperative BBB/BBB and an RCMP Secret security clearance.

A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP in the National Capital Region on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Notification regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

Education:
EDU1: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position.

EDU2: Successful completion of approved training in, orthopedic, rehabilitation, medical, surgery, mental health and some other specialty relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification:
OC1: Eligible for registration as a registered nurse in Ontario

Experience:
EX1: Experience in Occupational Health Nursing.
EX2: Experience in Disability Case Management.

Knowledge:
K1: Knowledge of the theories and principles of Disability Case Management.
K2: Knowledge of psychiatric illnesses and treatment of psychiatric/psychological illnesses.

Abilities and Skills :
A1: Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
A2: Ability to communicate effectively orally.
A3: Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
A4: Ability to plan and establish priorities.
