Reporting to the Director General, Published Heritage, the Director, Description is responsible and accountable for providing professional managerial leadership in developing, recommending and implementing integrated strategic and operational plans and priorities, policies, approaches, standards and processes for the development and the delivery of effective solutions to the challenges of resource discovery of Canada's documentary heritage; and the director is responsible for finding innovative solutions to the integration of description and resource discovery activities in order to enhance the user experience.
The intent of this process is to staff a position within the Published Heritage Branch's executive group on a permanent full-time basis. A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff similar positions at the EX-01 group and level with various tenures within Library and Archives Canada.

A response to a text question addressing the following:
*Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a master's degree in library science or in library and information science.
* We invite candidates who are currently completing the Master's degree to apply. They will be placed in a partially qualified pool which will be revalidated periodically. The master’s degree must be completed at the time of appointment.
• Experience in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships within the Canadian library community, and within an organization on behalf of a library service;
• Experience in providing strategic advice to senior management in support of business challenges;
• Experience in managing complex* programs, services and/or initiatives;
• Significant** experience in the management of human and financial resources***.
* Complex is defined by a programs, services and/or initiatives involving a number of different stakeholders, and requiring collaboration with either/or internal functions or external parties.
**Significant experience refers to the depth and breadth of experience associated with the performance of a broad range of related activities which were primarily the candidate's responsibility. It will be assessed on the basis of the scope, complexity and the diversity of the work performed as well as the autonomy required of the candidate to perform the activities.
*** This experience is defined as being responsible for sound financial planning, forecasting and reporting. Applicants must provide information on human resources (FTE, number of supervisors-subordinates, number of employees) and the size of the budget they managed (salary and operational).

• Knowledge of Library management software solutions and of recent technologies related to artificial intelligence, linked data and automation;

• Knowledge of standards and current issues and trends relating to bibliographic description.
