Marine Search and Rescue (SAR) Coordinators provide an invaluable service to people in need of assistance on the federally controlled waterways. Maritime SAR Coordinators oversee the activation, planning, and coordination, of Maritime Search and Rescue with the help of strategically located Canadian Coast Guard SAR vessels, Royal Canadian Air Force resources, and partners like police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS).

Using highly advanced computer and communication systems, you are part of a team that solves marine SAR cases. A Marine SAR Coordinator constantly monitors environmental and traffic conditions in order to be situationally aware and provide effective and efficient responses to all situations. Although this job can be very demanding at times, it is also rewarding, thrilling and empowering. Intent of the process

The purpose of this process is to create a inventory of candidates that will be used to fill Maritime Search and Rescue Coordinator within the Canadian Coast Guard, Central and Arctic Region, St-Lawrence Area. Positions are located at the Québec city Marine Rescue Center (MRSC)

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

STUDIES:
• A completed high school diploma or an acceptable combination of acceptable education, training and experience related to the position to be filled.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
• Watchkeeping Mate certificate or Valid Watchkeeping Mate, Near coastal certificate of Competency approved under SCTW 95 and issued under the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 Marine Personal Regulations SOR/2007-115 (or equivalent**).

EXPERIENCE:
Applicants must have one or more of the following experience criteria to be considered in this process.
A combination of the experience requirements totalizing 12 months or more could be acceptable.

• 12 months experience as a deck officer in charge of the watch;
OR
• 12 months experience as a Marine Rescue Co-ordinator or Assistant Coordinator at a Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) or Marine Rescue Sub-Center (MRSC).
OR
• 12 months experience as an officer in a Marine Communications and Traffic Services Center (MCTS):
OR
• Equivalent experience as defined in section 106 (2) C of the Flight Personnel Regulations (SOR / 2007-115): https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2007-115/page-3.html

• Knowledge of SAR methods and procedures associated with a maritime / aeronautical incident.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

• Communication skills (ensure that the message is received and understood as intended);
• Ability to use various computer tools.

Conditions of employment

Secret security clearance

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Valid medical (Health Canada) as per employment requirements;
• Must be able to return to the rescue center within a reasonable time frame;
• Wearing the Coast Guard uniform in the workplace, in accordance with the Canadian Coast Guard Uniform Wear Directive;
• Requirement to assume stand-by periods and to report for work outside normal working hours and work overtime;
• Possibility of traveling by different modes of transport such as a ship / FRC, train, plane and helicopter;
• Consent to work under rotating shift schedule (shifts) to provide 24/7 service;
• The candidate must have successfully completed an on-the-job training program and the following three courses within 12 months of being appointed:
1) Maritime Search Planning Course (MSP);
2) Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator Course (SMC);
3) SAR Mobile Facilities/On-scene coordinator Course (SMF/OSC);
