Assessment accommodation

Duties

Acting as technical expert/authority, provision of technical advice to Production, other groups within Integrated Technical Services (ITS) and clients within Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) both regionally and nationally on electronics and informatics assets. Specialized knowledge is used to make recommendations to colleagues, clients and senior management on the technical, regulatory and financial feasibility of the engineering aspect of electronics and informatics equipment and system replacement and modification proposals, as well as for the addition of new systems. This position is expected to develop documentation such as technical specifications and statements of work, standards, procedures, feasibility studies, installation specifications and engineering documents that govern the design, procurement, installation, maintenance and disposal of the Department's electronics and informatics assets.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to establish a pool of qualified candidates to staff one (1) position in Sarnia (ON).

This pool may also be used to staff identical or similar positions in Québec (QC) and Sarnia (ON) for various tenures, various language requirements and various security requirements which may vary according to the position being staffed.

EDUCATION

ED1- A secondary school diploma AND the completion of an acceptable training program in electronics technology or the employer-approved alternative.

The employer-approved alternative is as follows:
An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience*.

Note:
Normally, an acceptable training program in electronics technology involves the completion of two to three years of post-secondary study in this subject OR having achieved the Canadian Forces developmental period 2 (DP2) in the field of communication, radar, sonar, or navigational systems.

*Experience means five (5) years of on-the-job technical training and experience in repairs and installation of modems, landlines, navigational, communication, radars and/or sonar equipment

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

EXP1- Recent* and significant** experience in the installation or maintenance of shipboard or land-based naval electronics or informatics systems and/or shore based navigation or communication electronics systems.

EXP2- Recent* and significant** experience planning work involving multi-disciplinary teams.

EXP3- Recent* and significant** experience providing advice and guidance to clients concerning maintenance or installation of marine electronic equipment, systems used for navigation, communications or informatics.

EXP4- Experience managing multiple projects.

*Recent is defined as in the last five (5) years.

** Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex activities related to this task, which are normally acquired over a period of approximately (3) years.

EDUCATION

AED1- Graduation with a degree from a recognized University in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

EXPERIENCE

AEXP1- Recent* and significant** experience in the installation and maintenance of Marine Communications and Traffic Services (MCTS) systems.

AEXP2- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working on Canadian Coast Guard marine electronics or land-based communication electronics.

AEXP3- Successful completion of the Canadian Coast Guard MELDEV (Marine Electronic Development) program.

*Recent is defined as in the last five (5) years.

**Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex activities related to this task, which are normally acquired over a period of more than three (3) years.
