A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in a science relevant to the position

Degree equivalency

EX1: Experience in analysing large datasets in a scientific environment
EX2: Experience in conducting field- and/or lab-based research

EX3: Experience in using computer programming languages for scientific analysis
EX4: Experience in assisting with the preparation of scientific and technical papers

statistical methods for the analysis of field based data

monitoring and/or assessing forest system characteristics
KN4: Knowledge of methodology and software to define, analyse and integrate

Asset Qualifications for all streams
A1: Post-graduate degree from a post-secondary institution in a field of science related to the duties of the position
A2: Knowledge of Geographic Information System and/or Remote Sensing techniques relevant to forest and/or forested watershed processes

Degree equivalency

Asset Qualifications for stream 1 (Forest fire)
A4: Experience collaborating with operational fire management agencies
A5: Knowledge of models and decision support tools important for management of forest fires in Canada
A6: Knowledge of the physical fire environment

Asset Qualifications for stream 2 (Hydrology):
A7: Experience conducting advanced forest hydrology field work including streamflow gauging (velocity-area and salt dilution approaches), hydrometric surveys, data logger programming, hydrometeorological instrumentation installation and maintenance
A8: Knowledge of standard hydrologic analyses (e.g., rating curve development, flood frequency analysis, statistical and spatial modelling) and hydrologic modelling to support forest ecohydrology research

Asset Qualifications for stream 3 (Watershed ecology):
A9: Experience collecting molecular and/or biological samples from aquatic systems, including microbial, invertebrate, and/or fish
A10: Knowledge of advanced laboratory molecular techniques and data analyses relevant to aquatic ecology studies (e.g. spectrophotometry of water samples, water isotope analyses, eDNA, etc.
