Applicants are not required to submit a cover letter. Instead, they are required to answer THE SCREENING QUESTIONS clearly demonstrating with concrete examples in how they meet the education and experience factors listed in the essential qualifications. PLEASE NOTE that there are no screening questions pertaining to the asset criteria for the application process. Candidates will be solicited at a later date for this information. All screening questions must be answered. It is not sufficient to only state that the qualifications are met or to provide a listing of current or past responsibilities. Rather, you must clearly demonstrate HOW, WHEN, and WHERE the qualification was met through substantiation by examples as well as the period(s) in which you performed the functions of the positions. You will not have further opportunity to provide additional information. Providing the same answer for each qualification will result in your application being rejected. A maximum of 500 words will be accepted per screening question. Comments such as “refer to my attached resume” will not be accepted and may result in your application being rejected.
The intent of this process is to establish a pool of partially qualified candidates that could be used to staff similar positions in Health Canada.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position*
OR
Acceptable master's or bachelor's degree with a specialization in an area relevant to the duties of the position* coupled with acceptable research, training and experience. The training and experience must clearly demonstrate the ability to do personal research of doctoral degree caliber.
*Specialization could be biology, toxicology, chemistry, biochemistry, epidemiology, pharmacology, environmental science, public health, health science.
EXPERIENCE:
EX1: **Significant experience in managing an environmental science or health science program.
**Significant is defined as experience that was a core part of the candidate's employment and that would normally be acquired over a minimum of approximately 2 years.
EX2: Experience in providing complex science-based analysis and recommendations to senior management through written and verbal briefings. ***
*** Senior manager level: senior level is considered to be at the EX-01 level or equivalent in the public sector and/or the equivalent of Vice President, Director, and Senior Director or C suite management level in the private sector.
EX3: Experience in establishing and sustaining effective partnerships with stakeholders (including government departments, industry or non-governmental organizations) to deliver science-based operational or regulatory programs.
EX4: Experience in both operational and salary budget management.
Stream 1 (Assessment Stream)
EX5-AS Significant** experience in conducting scientific risk assessments or in the development of risk assessment methodologies.

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
AEX1: Experience in representing their employer at a seminars or conferences or international fora.
AEX2: Experience leading multidisciplinary research with a pollution and health component.
AEX3: Recognised scientific achievement, including authorship or editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers or other scientific communications.
AEX4: Significant** experience in providing scientific leadership and research management in the areas of biologic drugs or toxicology or environmental health sciences or related human health sciences.

AEX5: Experience in the formulation, negotiation and administration of professional contracts in a scientific research setting or regulatory setting
ASSET KNOWLEDGE:
AK1: Knowledge of risk assessment, risk management principles and emerging health risk assessment methodology.
AK2: Knowledge of Canadian and international science and research communities active in research related to environmental health.
