Education:
Graduation with an acceptable diploma in Animal Health Technology or Veterinary Technology from a recognized college or certification as a Registered Laboratory Animal Technician from the Canadian Association of Laboratory Animal Science.
Experience:
E1 Experience leading, planning and coordinating laboratory operations with internal and external teams, contractors and technical staff involved in research projects involving the use of laboratory animals.
E2 Experience in providing a full range of technical expertise to support the purchase and installation of state of the art equipment for Laboratory Animal Facilities
E3 Experience preparing detailed specifications for facility renovations or purchase of equipment as well as initiating and managing contracts for facility renovations or equipment acquisition.

Knowledge:
K1 Knowledge of the principles and techniques of laboratory animal science.
K2 Knowledge of the techniques and procedures of sanitation and sterilization
K3 Knowledge of ventilation, climate control and biosecurity principles to maintain the environmental integrity of animal facilities
Abilities:
A1 Ability to plan, coordinate and schedule activities of a laboratory animal facility
A2 Ability to develop, review and implement standard operating procedures related to laboratory animal equipment and facilities.
A3 Ability to review, analyze and troubleshoot environmental conditions in the animal housing facility to ensure the comfort of the laboratory animals and the integrity of the biosecurity of the different levels of containment.
A4 Ability to evaluate chemical, biological and physical hazards associated with laboratory procedures, in order to ensure that proper safety precautions are taken for handling and disposal.
A5 Ability to communicate effectively verbally
A6 Ability to communicate effectively in writing
