Marine Safety is part of the Marine Safety and Security Program that develops and administers policies and regulations to advance the safety and security of Canada’s marine transportation system. We promote an efficient and sustainable system that protects the marine environment and contributes to economic development.
Our corporate headquarters is in Ottawa. The Regional Director General oversees the Marine Safety and Security offices in each of the five regions — Pacific, Prairie and Northern, Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic.

The intent of this process is to staff one (1) Senior Marine Safety Inspector (Stream 4- Engineer) in Kingston, Ontario, and one (1) Senior Marine Safety Inspector (Stream 1- Naval Architecture) in Sarnia, Ontario. A pool of essentially qualified candidates for all four (4) streams will also be established and may be used to staff future vacancies in various locations within Transport Canada, Ontario Region.

Education:
STREAM 1
Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution in naval architecture.
STREAM 2
Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution in electrical/electronic engineering or electrical/electronic technology or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in electrical/electronic installation in a marine environment.
STREAM 3
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience AND possession of a Canadian certificate of competency as a Master, Near Coastal or higher.
STREAM 4
Secondary school diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience; AND possession of a Canadian certificate of competency as a Second-class Engineer (Motor Ship or Steamship) or higher.

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
AEX1: Experience as a master on vessels.
AEX2: Experience as a chief engineer on vessels.
AEX3: Experience as an employer representative or health and safety committee member / representative with respect to the Canada Labour Code Part II or the equivalent provincial health and safety legislation.
AEX4: Experience in the development or implementation of safety management systems.
AEX5: Experience in the development or implementation of quality assurance programs or systems.

8. Please note that achieving the pass mark on any of the assessments used does not mean you will move forward in the selection process.
