Assessment accommodation

The first extraction of applications is expected to occur on September 16, 2019 to fill an immediate need. Future extractions from this inventory are expected to occur throughout the advertisement period to staff similar positions at the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) with various tenures, language requirements, operational requirements and/or conditions of employment, depending on the position to be staffed.

Duties

Keep your finger on the pulse of the Atlantic Canadian economy! What’s happening with the ocean economy, and how can Atlantic Canada leverage its specialization in ocean technology? How can we foster the innovation ecosystem in Atlantic Canada? How will disruptive technologies affect traditional industries? What is going on with labour and skills, and how is this impacting companies? How are growing trade tensions affecting Atlantic companies? What are the barriers to growth for particular industries? If you think these are interesting questions to answer, this could be your job! While we never know what will come across our desks, we do know it will relate to the Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canadian economies, and we think that is pretty cool!

ACOA Nova Scotia’s Policy, Advocacy and Coordination Team is looking for top talent to help with research, analysis and intergovernmental relations on important issues affecting the future of the Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canadian economies. We are looking for team members who:

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to create an inventory. Extractions from this inventory are expected to occur throughout the advertisement period to staff positions at ACOA with various tenures, language requirements, operational requirements and/or conditions of employment, depending on the position to be staffed.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.

Candidates must always have a degree; however, the specialization may be acquired through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or work experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

• Experience in managing studies, research or strategic initiatives
• Experience analyzing issues and in developing strategies or options
• Experience researching and analyzing social or economic issues
• Experience working on projects or issues that require collaboration with partners or clients
• Experience providing strategic advice (written and verbal) to senior management* on policy, programs or corporate issues (e.g., briefing notes, memoranda, policy papers, reports or presentations).

* Senior management is defined as director level or higher.

EDUCATION
Successful completion of a Master's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in economics or public administration.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
• Experience working on economic development policy, projects or programs related to one or more of the Government of Canada’s priorities in Atlantic Canada (e.g., innovation, trade and investment, clean growth, labour and skills, immigration, infrastructure development).

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS
In support of achieving a represented workforce, current or future organizational needs may require consideration be given to candidates self-identifying as belonging to one of the following Employment Equity groups: women, members of visible minorities, persons with disabilities, and Aboriginal peoples. OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability and willingness to travel occasionally.
• Valid driver’s licence required or personal mobility to a degree normally associated with the possession of a driver’s licence.
