Environmental Public Health Officers (EPHOs) work collaboratively with partners to deliver high-quality health protection services to Indigenous peoples.
An EPHO provides advice, guidance, education, public health inspections and recommendations to First Nations and their leadership to help manage public health risks associated with the environment.
Frequent travel is required, often using various modes of transportation.
First Nations and Inuit Health Branch, Ontario Region is responsible for providing public health services (including Environmental Public Health) to those living on reserve. There are 8 core programs delivered: Drinking Water, Food Safety, Healthy Housing, Wastewater, Solid Waste Disposal, Facilities Inspection, Communicable Disease Control, and Emergency Preparedness & Response.
A pool of partially and or fully qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (permanent, term, deployment, assignment, secondment and/or acting) within Indigenous Services Canada, First Nations & Inuit Health Branch, Ontario Region.

Successful completion of a course of full-time instruction in Public Health Inspection or Environmental Public Health at a Canadian post-secondary institution (or equivalent) as recognized by the Board of Certification of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) as granted by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
Operational experience working with First Nations communities and organizations.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS
Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) is committed to a workforce that is culturally sensitive and representative of its Aboriginal partners.
In alignment with the Aboriginal Peoples Employment Program (APEP) in support of strategically increasing Aboriginal representation in areas having the most impact on program delivery and health outcomes of First Nations Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) target population, selection may be limited to candidates self-identifying as belonging to Aboriginal peoples. OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Willingness (on occasion) to work extended hours and travel on short notice.
Willingness to travel frequently to isolated and non-isolated communities using a variety of transportation, such as: small aircraft, boats, snowmobiles, cars, all-terrain vehicles in all weather conditions.
Ability to wear personal protective equipment when required.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle for extended periods of time.
Must be able to lift 23kgs (51lbs.)
Reliability Status security clearance
Maintaining a Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) in good standing.
Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence or if possessing another province’s licence, to obtain an Ontario drivers licence within 60 days of starting work.
Pre-employment medical/personal health declaration will be required for Isolated Post position (Sioux Lookout).
Candidates must meet and maintain the above mentioned Conditions of employment throughout their employment.
