The Training and Development Unit (TDU) develops and implements a range of high-quality training for public health professionals. Our training aims to increase the field-readiness of our responders, including Canadian field epidemiologists, to build capacity in applied epidemiology across Canada and to enhance public health preparedness to respond to events, emergencies or threats. Since its inception, the TDU has strived to create engaging and impactful training sessions and learning products by monitoring and assessing the most current scientific evidence and best practices. We collaborate with partners and experts affiliated with a wide array of teams across the Public Health Agency of Canada, within local, provincial and international health organizations and from within the non-governmental sector. As enthusiastic and dedicated members of the Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response, our objective is to ensure that the Health Portfolio and public health practitioners across Canada have the knowledge and competencies that they need to respond to public health threats, events and emergencies, in order to effectively protect the health of Canadians. Intent of the process

The immediate intent of this Job Opportunity Advertisement is to staff available and upcoming positions both on an indeterminate and temporary basis.

In this role, candidates would be responsible for:
- Applying adult education and instructional design best practices to develop curricula and training in applied public health, emergency management and other response-readiness competencies;
- Gathering and evaluating evidence and scientific research, as well as engaging with experts, to develop courses and knowledge-translation products that bridge the gap between evidence and practice;
- Leveraging facilitation and presentation skills, as well their experience in responding to outbreaks and public health emergencies, to deliver high-quality training;
- Collaborating and engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders;
- Working closely with their team to manage multi-disciplinary projects.

Applicants should be aware that a pool of qualified candidates (fully assessed or partially assessed) may be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various language requirements. In addition, this process may be used for various tenures (acting appointments, assignment, deployment, indeterminate, specified period, secondment), various locations, security requirements and conditions of employment within the Public Health Agency of Canada across Canada.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.

Notes: Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

**Candidates with non-Canadian educational credentials will be required to demonstrate Canadian equivalency for ALL degrees obtained outside of Canada if they are to be used for the purpose of this process.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in responding to outbreaks, public health events or emergencies.
• Experience in managing or leading projects or programs involving engagement of multiple stakeholders and/or multidisciplinary teams;
• Experience planning, developing and/or delivering public health training content as a workshop, in-person or online training course.

• Successful completion of a Master's degree or a PhD from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialisation in Epidemiology, Public Health or a health-related field.
• Completion of the Canadian Field Epidemiology Program or other recognized field epidemiology training program
• Additional qualifications (degree, certificate, diploma, etc.) in adult learning and adult education
• Additional qualifications (degree, certificate, diploma, etc.) in emergency management/preparedness

Degree equivalency

Asset Experience:
• Experience in applied epidemiology (e.g., conducting or coordinating outbreak investigations, designing or evaluating surveillance systems and/or conducting other applied epidemiological studies)
• Experience using advanced analytical methods for applied epidemiology investigations (e.g., aberration detection algorithms, spatial analysis, social network analysis, time series analysis, multivariable regression analysis)
• Experience using STATA or R statistical software packages
• Experience conducting surveillance or investigating outbreak alerts during mass gatherings or complex public health emergencies
• Experience working within an emergency operations/coordination centre

• Knowledge of emergency management best practices, and their application in public health

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally
Willingness and ability to work overtime, often on short notice
