EDUCATION
Stream 1 - Species at Risk Protection Biologist :
Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in natural science or in physical or applied science with a specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
Stream 2 - Biologist, Migratory Bird Population Monitoring:
A master’s degree from a recognized postsecondary institution with specialization in biology.
Note:
Candidates must always have a degree. Specialization courses must be acceptable and have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily as part of a degree program in the required field of specialization.
*Degree: Unless otherwise specified (e.g. master’s degree), “degree” refers to a baccalaureate as established by educational authorities
EXPERIENCE
Stream 1:
E1.Three years of experience implementing provincial or federal acts or regulations regarding the conservation of Quebec wildlife.
E2.Experience providing advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
E3.Experience participating in wildlife and habitat conservation committees or working groups with government and non government participants.
Stream 2:
E4.Significant* experience designing or leading a number of projects or programs involving migratory birds (planning, execution, data analysis) and reporting the results.
E5.Meaningful** experience in a remote workplace.
E6.Experience directing staff on a temporary or ongoing basis.
*Significant experience means experience of such a depth and breadth that would normally be acquired by performing the duties over a cumulative period of three years, consecutive or not. The candidate must explain their responsibilities related to the projects and programs through which they acquired the experience.
**Meaningful experience is a period of several weeks, consecutive or not, spent working in a remote area.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Stream 1:
Master’s degree or PhD from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization related to the duties of the position.
Stream 2:
PhD from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization related to the duties of the position.
EXPERIENCE (ASSET)
Stream 1:
AE1.Significant experience* in issuing authorizations or permits in accordance with provincial regulations regarding wildlife conservation in Quebec.
*Significant experience means experience of such a depth and breadth that would normally be acquired after performing a wide range of relevant activities for three years or more.
Stream 2:
AE2.Experience in the aerial tracking of migratory bird populations.
AE3.Experience navigating small vessels.
AE4.Experience in handling firearms or in the sport hunting of migratory birds or other game species.
AE5.Experience with advanced statistical methods and analysis software (please specify).

K1.Knowledge of policies, acts, regulations and programs concerning the conservation of wildlife, including migratory birds, species at risk, habitats and other areas of federal biodiversity conservation.
Stream 1:
K2.Knowledge of government and non government stakeholders’ responsibilities regarding wildlife and habitat conservation.
K3.Knowledge of Species at Risk Act.
Stream 2:
K4.Advanced knowledge of tracking methods for migratory bird populations in Canada.

Stream 2:

Stream 1:
Willingness and ability to travel.
Willingness to work overtime when required, often on short notice.
Stream 2:
Willingness to travel for work by various modes of transportation (car, plane, helicopter, boat, all-terrain vehicle).
Willingness to sometimes work in harsh environmental conditions and in remote areas for up to two months (consecutive or non consecutive).
Willingness to work irregular hours and sometimes on the weekend.
