When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific job, but to an inventory to fill upcoming employment opportunities at the AS-01 group and level within the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. We have an immediate need to staff 2 positions at the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). Successful candidates may also be referred to other federal organizations as other positions may become available.

The CRTC is a federal administrative tribunal of about 450 employees that serves Canadians as citizens, creators and consumers, and is committed to providing them with access to a world-class communications system.
The CRTC is a division of the Federal Public Administration under the responsibility of the Minister of Canadian Heritage, pursuant to Schedule I-1 of the Financial Administration Act. CRTC’s employees are employees of the public service.
At the CRTC, we engage in a wide range of activities. As part of our role in ensuring Canadians have access to a world-class communications system, we supervise and regulate various services on which we all rely. For example, we work to encourage and enhance competition in telecommunications services, such as Internet broadband and mobile phone. We promote Canadian culture and the development of compelling and diverse content by and for Canadians through the licensing of TV and radio services. We also work to reduce spam, unsolicited telecommunications and other nuisance communications.
A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions within the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) with various tenures (acting, specified period or indeterminate positions), various security clearance levels and/or various language requirements.

A covering letter in 3,000 words (maximum) "The ability to communicate effectively in writing will be evaluated by means of this letter. Candidates must submit a cover letter which clearly demonstrates how they meet each of the screening criteria (i.e. essential and asset education and experience qualifications. Candidates must use the education and experience factors as a header and write one or two paragraphs for each demonstrating how they meet that criterion. For the experience criteria, please note that it is NOT sufficient to only state that the qualification is met or to provide a listing of current or past responsibilities. The candidate must provide concrete examples to demonstrate that the qualification is met. In addition, the candidate is encouraged to describe in detail when, where and how he/she gained the experience. Resumes will be used ONLY as a secondary source to validate the experience described in the cover letter. FAILURE TO PROVIDE AN APPROPRIATE COVER LETTER WILL RESULT IN THE REJECTION OF YOUR APPLICATION. CANDIDATES WILL NOT BE SOLICITED FOR INCOMPLETE OR POSSIBLE MISSING INFORMATION."
EDUCATION AND/OR OCCUPATION CERTIFICATION:
• A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE :
• Recent* experience in using spreadsheets, word processing and emails such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook.
Recent* experience is defined as an experience acquired within the last year.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
• Diploma of Vocational Training or College Diploma in Secretarial Studies, Administration or Office Administration.
STREAM 1, Human Resources positions:
• Experience working in Human Resources.
• Experience working in a small** agency or department within the public service.
• Experience in manipulating organizational charts with the help of softwares such as Visio.
**Small department or agency is defined by an organization falling under the core jurisdiction of the PSC or its extended jurisdiction as listed in the Financial Administration Ace (Schedules I, IV & V), for which Treasury Board is the employer and which have less than 1000 occupied positions.
STREAM 2, Administrative positions:
• Experience in providing administrative support to senior management (Director level and/or higher).
Bilingual - Imperative (BBB/BBB)

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS :

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice.
STREAM 1, Human Resources positions:
• As per the collective agreement, the normal workday shall be seven decimal five (7.5) consecutive hours, exclusive of a lunch period, between the hours of 7 am and 6 pm. Although other schedules may become available, the selected candidate should expect to work from 9 am to 5 pm.

Pass marks will be established for each qualification. However, achieving the pass mark is not a guarantee of an appointment or that candidates will be put through the next stages of the assessment process.
