Duties

The Junior Communications Officer plays a key role, both internally and externally, along with the Agency’s various branches, in the delivery of high quality Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) programs and in helping ensure FCAC fulfils its mandate and strategic objectives.

Work environment

FCAC is a separate agency that offers the same pension and benefits plans as the core federal public service. In addition, you will benefit from a minimum of four (4) weeks of vacation leave per year, earn a competitive salary, and be eligible for an annual performance pay. We have our own classification system (RE and REX).

Intent of the process

This selection process may be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates, which could be used to staff similar or identical positions with various linguistic profiles and requirements, security profiles and various tenures.

We may appoint candidates by applying one or more of the following criteria:
- Breadth, depth, type of specific asset experience;
- Matching individual experience assets or qualifications to the need of the Agency;
- Level of one of more competencies/qualifications.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Degree from a recognized university in journalism, communications, or another field relevant to the position, or an acceptable and equivalent combination of education, training and experience in media, press office, communications or public relations.

Degree equivalency

Experience in writing a variety of communications products.
Experience in coordinating projects related to communications.
Experience in the development and implementation of communications strategies.

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)

Bilingual - Imperative (CBC/CBC)

Information on language requirements

Knowledge of communications theories, principles and/or practices.
Knowledge of Canadian news media.

Demonstrating integrity and respect.
Thinking things through.
Working effectively with others.
Showing initiative and being action oriented.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.

The following may be applied / assessed at a later date (may be needed for the job)

Experience in the financial services sector.
Experience in the coordination of committees and/or an events.
Experience in coordinating the logistics related to the organization of conferences, meetings or other events.
Experience in managing and maintaining various types of documents such as master membership lists, participants and coordinates’ lists, logistical requirements and protocols.

Willingness and ability to respond to urgent calls outside of working hours and to periodically work overtime on short notice.
