• Casual workers are hired for specified periods that may not exceed 90 working days in one calendar year, in a department or in an agency to which the Public Service Commission (PSC) has exclusive authority to make appointments. The period of casual employment may be for one or more than one term, but is not to exceed 90 working days in a department or agency in a calendar year.

Aboriginal Liaison Officers (ALOs) interpret and communicate Aboriginal offender behaviour, cultural needs and progress to the case management team for inclusion in correctional/healing plans and Elder reviews to promote the safe release of Aboriginal offenders and to reduce the recidivism rate. As part of a multi-disciplanary team, ALOs develop and deliver Aboriginal interventions and actively contribute to case management processes and establish a link with offenders to provide them with information regarding cultural/spiritual programming, activities and resources; foster a positive Aboriginal cultural environment with offenders and help to interpret CSC legislation, institutional regulations, roles of other staff members, and terms and conditions of Conditional Release. ALOs assists in the identification and assessment of the initial healing components for Aboriginal offenders and assist Aboriginal offenders in developing healing/release plans under the guidance of Elders, the case management team, community-based agencies and Aboriginal communities. These positions are based in a correctional institution. Variable Work Hours may be required.
