The Canadian Centre for Climate Services (CCCS) is an exciting new organization within Environment and Climate Change Canada that has been established by the federal government to provide climate information and innovative decision-support tools to help build resilience to climate change in Canada. As a whole-of-government initiative, the CCCS aims to provide user-driven climate services based on authoritative climate data, with the ultimate goal of allowing Canadians to make climate-smart adaptation decisions leading to a more resilient Canada.
The successful candidate will also have the unique opportunity to participate in a collaborative effort between multiple federal government departments, other levels of government, and regional climate expert organizations.
A pool of qualified candidates will be established in this process and could be used to staff similar PC-02 and PC-03 positions with various tenure, various linguistic requirements (English essential, bilingual imperative BBB/BBB, bilingual imperative CBC/CBC), various security requirements (Reliability status / Secret security clearance) and various conditions of employment within Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Stream 1: Physical Science Officer (PC-02)

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.
Note: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
EXPERIENCE:
All streams:
• Experience in analyzing and interpreting meteorological, climatological or environmental data.
Stream 1 (PC-02):
• Experience in the preparation and delivery of science-based training, briefings, reports, presentations, or communication products targeting various scientific and non-scientific audiences.
Stream 2 (PC-03):
• Experience coordinating or leading cross-disciplinary working groups or projects that involve various stakeholders in a research, policy or services context.
• Experience leading the preparation and delivery of science-based training, briefings, reports, presentations, or communication products targeting various scientific and non-scientific audiences.
• Experience developing partnerships or collaborating with other federal government departments, other levels of government, non -governmental organizations, academia, or private sector.

• Experience in using scientific programming languages like Python, R, Fortran, C, or other similar languages to analyze and visualize large amounts of scientific data.
• Experience leading, delivering or developing training in a work environment.
Stream 2 (PC-03):
• Experience calculating new indicators/datasets, analyzing and presenting scientific guidance on climate change impacts and/or adaptation.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
