Duties

Conducts planning, operations, maintenance, repair, and construction projects for the buildings, services, infrastructure, fleet, and grounds at the Scott Research Farm. This to meet the research, facility management and regulatory requirements of an Agricultural Research Centre under the direction and in consultation with the Facilities Manager.

Work environment

There is frequent exposure to: extremes of weather, hot/humid environmental conditions, noise, fumes, chemicals, acids which may be toxic or corrosive; there is a regular risk of minor injury when dismantling and installing equipment; there is occasional risk of injuries from lifting and carrying heavy materials/equipment, or from falls while working in elevated positions. There is a requirement to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety boots, eye, ear and respiratory protection gear and fall protection PPE.

As one of the research sites in Canada, the Scott Research Farm is an important part of the Saskatoon Research and Development Centre. The Scott site is responsible for conducting various agricultural research studies for the Government of Canada. This position works to support the research by ensuring that the facilities and infrastructure are maintained in accordance with regulated maintenance and codes as well by meeting the requirements of the research programs at the Scott Research Farm.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one (1) indeterminate position.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar permanent and temporary employment.

In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

Secondary school diploma or possession of a valid journeyman certificate.

Degree equivalency

Experience in estimating, monitoring, verifying expenditures for trade related work units.

Experience in specification writing for tendered projects in trade related fields

Experience in coordinating and scheduling construction trades in order to effectively plan maintenance and repairs

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience in operating Electronic Building Management Systems

Experience in managing contractors conducting repairs on Facilities

Experience in assisting with creating and implementation maintenance programs, small construction projects, and daily maintenance and resource activities involving trades.
