Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one position on an indeterminate basis, with a linguistic profile of Bilingual Imperative BBC/BBC and an RCMP Top Secret security clearance.

A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP in the National Capital Region on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Notification regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

Should a Public Service (PS) employee be found qualified and selected for appointment, notification regarding the PS appointment will be posted accordingly on www.jobs.gc.ca.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
A certificate or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in occupational health, industrial hygiene, health physics, safety management, loss control management, safety engineering, or any other field relevant to the work to be performed.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
EX1. Recent Experience* coordinating an occupational health and safety program (risk prevention program, job hazard analyses, work place accident management program, etc.), policies, procedures, projects or directives.

EX2. Experience providing advice and guidance regarding the interpretation and/or application of federal or provincial Occupational Health and Safety regulations, standards and/or industry codes of practice.

EX3. Experience in conducting investigations, inspections and providing training.

*Recent experience is normally associated with the performance of these duties as part of your major job duties for a period of four (4) cumulative years in the past six (6) years.

Note: Experience as a member of an occupational health and safety committee alone is insufficient.

Asset Occupational Certification:
Certification as an occupational safety specialist, industrial hygienist or public health inspector. Acceptable certifications include, but are not limited to:

1. Certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals;

2. Certification as a Registered Occupational Hygienist or Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist by the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists;

3. Certification as an Industrial Hygienist or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene or jointly with the Board of Certified Safety Professionals;

4. Certification as a Canadian Health and Safety Consultant by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering; and

5. Certification as a Public Health Inspector (Canada) by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors Board of Certification.

Asset Experience:
AEX1. Experience in identifying and mitigating psychological risk factors in the workplace.

Top Secret security clearance

- The successful candidate must obtain a certification as an occupational safety specialist, industrial hygienist or public health inspector within two years of hire. Acceptable certifications include, but are not limited to:

1. Certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals;

2. Certification as a Registered Occupational Hygienist or Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist by the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists;

3. Certification as an Industrial Hygienist or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene or jointly with the Board of Certified Safety Professionals;

- Requirement to occasionally work irregular hours and overtime.

- Requirement to occasionally travel.

- Valid provincial driver's license or personal mobility to the degree normally associated with a driver's license.

- Requirement to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as personal flotation devices, protective footwear, respiratory protection and fall protection equipment. Some of these items may be heavy or cumbersome.
