Duties

1. Provide expert advice and guidance to TSB management, investigators, employees, national and regional OHS committees and HS representatives on legislative, administrative and technical health and safety requirements

2. Lead and coordinate TSB's Hazard Prevention Program aimed at controlling health and safety hazards in the workplace

3. Provide technical support and subject matter expertise for the development and delivery of in-house OHS training

4. Conduct workplace inspections and internal audits to assess compliance with legislative OHS requirements

5. Coordinate the application of the OHS Management System (OHSMS), sharing of information and identification of best practices among regional and central TSB offices; and attends OHS committee meetings as a resource person

6. Administer the National Respiratory Protection Program for TSB

7. Act as the site safety officer during complex on-site investigations; and coordinate the provision of external OHS services such as environmental monitoring at accident sites involving hazardous substances and specialized OHS training

The initial intent of this process is to staff one (1) indeterminate position.

EDUCATION:
Successful completion of a secondary school diploma

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Health and safety professional certification or designation as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional and/or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:
Recent and significant* experience in providing advice and guidance to management and staff with respect to the application and interpretation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation, policies and guidelines

Recent and significant* experience in leading and coordinating the development and implementation of an occupational health and safety program in an operational or technical environment (i.e. industrial work sites, laboratories and/or other highly hazardous environment)

Experience managing a respiratory protection program

Experience conducting worksite hazard assessments

Experience in managing projects

*Recent and significant is defined as a minimum of at least 2 years of experience in the last 7 years

Note: Experience limited to OHS committee membership is not sufficient

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized university
Successful completion of post-secondary education in the field of occupational health and safety

EXPERIENCE:
Experience conducting audits and management reviews in the areas of occupational health and safety

Experience in conducting workplace accident/injury investigations to provide expert solutions

Degree equivalency

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Candidate may be required to work overtime occasionally

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Meet the Occupational Health Assessment (Periodic III)
2. Possess a valid driver’s license in Canada
3. Agree to deploy to accident sites where there may be exposure to disagreable and difficult working conditions and to extreme climatic conditions
4. Agree to respond and travel on short notice during and after normal working hours and on statutory holidays
5. Agree to travel within Canada and abroad, including travel by car, rail, ship and air.
6. Willingness to undergo TSB required training
