We are looking for a passionate and visionary leader to unlock the initiative, ideas and skills of a pan-western team. The Director General, WCGS will steer Deputy Minister and Assistant Deputy Minister interdepartmental committees to develop and action important agendas to grow jobs, exports and the economy, under four priority pillars: diversification, trade, skills and communities.

Preference may be given for initial appointment in Edmonton (Alberta) or Ottawa (Ontario). However, applicants from all listed locations are encouraged to apply.
A pool of qualified candidates (fully assessed or partially assessed) may be established. This process may be used for various tenures (including but not limited to term and indeterminate appointments, internal assignments, secondments, deployments, acting appointments), as well as various security requirements and conditions of employment.

Education:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in business administration, commerce, public administration, marketing, economics, sociology, political science or other related field.
Experience at the executive level:
• Experience delivering a major initiative in a matrix or collaborative leadership environment.
• Experience providing strategic advice, recommendations and briefings to senior level officials at the Assistant Deputy Minister and/or Deputy Minister level on complex files;
• Experience collaborating and maintaining effective relationships with partners and stakeholders that delivered results.
• Experience developing and implementing strategic plans for high priority organizational initiatives.
• Experience managing human and financial resources.
For the purposes of this selection process, experience is defined as gained through the full-time performance of the professional duties for a continuous period of 2 years or more.
Although not required, these qualifications are considered assets:
• Experience engaging with elected officials and their offices.
• Experience leading geographically disperse teams.
