Duties

The position to staff is in the Reports Branch. The Reports Branch is responsible for the technical and legal editing, translation and publication of the Court’s judgments. The responsibilities of the position include assisting the Chief Law Editor in the management of the workflow process and tracking of the reasons for judgments; assisting the Chief Jurilinguist in the management of the Court’s translation requests, the contracting process for translation services, and the translation services budget; preparing statistical reports for the Branch; and providing other administrative support to the Branch.

Work environment

The Supreme Court of Canada is Canada’s final court of appeal. It serves Canadians by deciding legal issues of public importance, thereby contributing to the development of all branches of law applicable within Canada. The Court hears cases which are based on the common law or on the civil law of Quebec, as well as on federal, provincial or territorial legislation, and which deal with all human activities. Its decisions are delivered simultaneously in both official languages. According to the most recent public service employee surveys, the Supreme Court of Canada is one of the best places to work in the federal public service.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff the above mentioned position; it may also be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates to staff similar positions at the Supreme Court of Canada with varying language requirements, security profiles, and tenures.

Education:

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience related to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

Experience in financial administration such as accounts payable and management of contracts
Experience in coordinating tasks or projects involving multiple people or groups
Experience in providing administrative services in an office environment

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Asset qualifications:

Experience working in a legal, judicial or quasi-judicial environment
Experience in managing outgoing or incoming translation requests
Experience using an electronic document management and storage system such as (but not limited to) Sharepoint or GCDocs.
